About us

The company was formed in 1971 primarily to perform a one-off production of Gilbert & Sullivan's “The Mikado” to fill a void at that time on the Island in this particular field of operetta. This first production was such a success it was decided to continue and since then the company has gone from strength to strength.

Nowadays, shows of all types are performed, not just the Savoy Operas or composers such as Lehar, Strauss, Rogers & Hammerstein, but Lionel Bart, Dolly Parton and Andrew Lloyd Webber to name but a few. Over recent years, Disney's epic “Beauty and the Beast” has joined the company's success story, coupled with a production of “Titanic” marking the 100th anniversary of the tragic event in 2012.

In the spring of 2013 “The Sound of Music” raised the company's profile even further, followed by “Sister Act”, “Hello Dolly”, “The Gondoliers”, “White Christmas”, “Evita”, “My Fair Lady”, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” plus many others to date.

Shanklin Theatre has been the company's home since its inception – a great little theatre which suits the company's needs so well.

Rehearsals for productions are usually held on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Two productions are staged each year in the Spring and Autumn. The aim is to make new friends, have fun, maintain a high standard and ultimately to engage with and entertain audiences.

The company will always welcome new members - anyone can apply, an audition is necessary for performing on stage, but others are required for backstage, front of house etc. If a production has children taking part, then a strict code of practice is adhered to involving children appearing on stage.

The aim of the company is to entertain and educate in the field of musical theatre.
